Silence and Peace
Percy Jackson x fem!reader
Summary: Y/n doesn't like Percy very much, until one quiet night changes everything.
Warnings: use of Y/n, female reader, kinda suggestive, no specific cabin,
Wordcount: 1.8k
I'm back! If you have any requests or whatever, send them in! Though I might need a while to finish stuff right now :(
Btw, thinking of making a part 2 of this? What do you think?
Masterlist
In the quiet hours of Camp Half Blood, when all campers were asleep and nobody could disturb her peace, Y/n sat on the beach. Watching the waves crash against the shore longingly like they were her second home. She watched the ocean come and go. She watched the sand cover her feet and making her sink deeper every time a wave came to her. For her, that was freedom. Long hours of silence. A peace so immaculate nobody could blame her for it. Nobody could make her drown in agony in those moments.
Not even Percy Jackson, Son of Poseidon. The boy who watched her from afar one night and couldnât look away ever since. He watched her helping other campers with a mesmerizing look in his eyes. One that screamed at everyone walking past, âthat is gonna be my girl.â
And if she loved the ocean so much, she would love him the same, right? Wrong. She wasnât his girl. She never even though about being his girl. He was always just Percy Jackson. The boy who bullied her for being older but still smaller than him. It wasnât even that much of time between them. Seven months. Seven months was enough for him to make fun of her. Because Percy had no idea how to get a girls attention otherwise.
So that was his plan. Make her hate him if that was the only way for him to talk to her. Stupid boy.
Percy was stupid; you could ask about a dozen people and they would agree. He wasnât dumb, but stupid. That kind of stupid that would get defeated by Annabeth after being distracted by a girl walking by. That kind of stupid that would stumble over his own feet when she approached him to complete her duties at camp. That kind of stupid that walked over to her one night and sat down next to her with nothing but static silence and the rapid sound of his heartbeat in his head. He was stupid in love.
âWhy do you always watch the ocean but never go in?â He asked, scaring the girl and making her look at him wide eyed.
âI-â she began talking before shutting up. Every time she saw him, she prepared herself to get a snarky remark out of his mouth instead of a civil conversation. Though now he talked to her like a normal person. He talked to her like they were friends. âWhat are you doing here?â
Percy chuckled, averting his eyes from the moon towards her. Eyes sparkling, a kind of tiredness filling his face. âI donât think you should be the one asking.â
It wasnât meant mean. It wasnât meant harmful in any way. However Y/n received enough comments with the same tone to roll her eyes and look away from him in annoyance. In her head, he wasnât there to keep her company or even - dare I say - comfort. He was only there to annoy and tease her.
âLook, Percy, I was really enjoying my peace before you came, so maybe, would you be so kind, and leave me alone. Just this once. In the morning you can say whatever you wanna say to me, just not tonight,â she said, pulling her knees to her chest and letting her head rest on them, her voice tired and stifled.
Percy looked at the girl like she was going insane. Like somehow she murdered three people and wasnât afraid for him to be the next. Which, Percy assumed, probably was one thought in her head at the moment. Even when he could never imagine her doing harm to anyone or anything. She was the smart, kind, classy girl in camp. The sweet, blooming field of flowers that everyone adored. Him included. He adored her.
âYou know, when Iâm seeking peace at night, I also visit the ocean,â he told her, making her look up at him. She was surprised he was still sat next to her, talking in tranquility. It felt foreign, yet normal in a fascinating sense to her. A person can be so different at night. Or was it only because he was at peace now? âLately it felt like I visited a girl as well.â
It took her a moment, but then she understood what he meant. This wasnât the first time he came here. It was, however, the first time he made himself known, which surprised her. When you think of Percy Jackson the first adjectives would be sarcastic, extroverted and brave not shy, calm and soft. At least not to her.
âYou were watching me?â She asked, eyebrows furrowed in confusion and, what Percy assumed to be disgust, but actually it was surprise. Y/n was surprised that he seemed interested in her.
âI also like to swim, but that wasnât possible since you occupied the oceanâs attention for most of the time,â he told her, sighing in acted sadness.
Y/n laughed at his terrible performance, making him smile in return. âYou shouldâve just walked past. I wouldâve been gone in a second if I knew it was you.â
Something in that sentence made Percyâs heart drop. Maybe it was the face that she wouldâve been gone. Or maybe it was because she wouldâve been gone because it was him. Anyway, something about it made him uncomfortable in his own skin.
âYou also couldâve stayed,â he told her, not looking at her, missing the soft smile and tender look dancing in her eyes. âBet you wouldnât have minded seeing me without a shirt.â There it was. The comment she waited for, combined with the smirk she knew all too well. Percy was terrible at flirting and she wouldnât have said what she eventually did if they hadnât been all alone at this hour.
âMaybe I wouldnât have.â
Percyâs mouth stood open with surprise, while she shrugged nonchalant and bit her lower lip to suppress a laugh that wanted to escape her so badly. The boy wasnât used to her actually jump on the joke and tease him back, though he couldnât deny that he somehow liked it.
After a moment of thinking, he took his chance. Pulling his shirt over his head and making his way towards the water, he turned to her with a smirk. âWell, if thatâs the case.â
Y/n wanted to watch the beach, she came specifically to this place to do just that. Watch the waves and the shore and the sky and the moon. Though now her eyes were focusing on something else. She watched Percy dip in the water, breaking the surface, with such gentleness, she wanted him to touch her just the same. She watched him swim for a bit. Watched him look at her and act like he was being attacked to get a laugh out of her. His head sticking out of the water to watch her reaction. When he saw her enjoying his company for once, he smiled back. It was nice knowing to be the reason for oneâs happiness. Especially someone you wanted to make happy every day.
As he came back, Y/n tried to keep her focus on the moon, only betraying her quest when Percy sat down next to her again. Shirt still laying next to him.
Percy turned his head, only in time to catch her eyes traveling over his now shivering body. The night air hitting his skin with discomfort.
âYou should put your shirt back on or youâre gonna get sick,â she said, looking at him. Her eyes catching a water drop sliding down his face and following it. He ignored her comment but still put his shirt back on.
âWhen you said that you wouldâve gone if I was to just walk past and into the water, was that only because of me or would you have gone if any other person wouldâve been in my position?â He asked her, making her look away from him again. She didnât answer though Percy knew the answer now. âYou donât like me very much.â
âItâs hard to like you, when you constantly try to embarrass me,â she said, finally. Finally she didnât just walk past him, ignoring his comments like they werenât meant for her. Though it was obvious to everyone.
âIâm not trying to embarrass you,â Percy admitted. Grover was right, he thought.
After he finally told someone about his crush on the girl, Grover was quick to educate him that that wasnât the way to get a girlfriend. âI was just trying to get your attention,â he admitted quietly.
Y/n laughed at that, her hand over her mouth. âWhy would you want my attention?â She asked him.
âWhat?â Percy didnât understand how that seemed so impossible to the girl next to him.
âPercy, be serious. You couldnât possibly want my attention so bad. I mean, why would you? You have the attention of all the girls, why mine?â
Percy had never been so mad at himself and at her too. He wanted to tell her that he was just joking. He wanted to tell her that he had no idea why he wanted her. But the truth was he knew. He laid awake enough nights asking himself the same question. Then again, he was mad at her for thinking that. He was mad again at her that she couldnât see all what he saw in her in herself.
âI like you, okay? I really do. I like the way you talk kindly to everyone and I like your smile and your cleverness. I like that youâre always there for everyone and that you listen to me even though Iâve been horrible to you,â he told her it all. Everything that he thought about he told her. âI like your bubbly personality and how you canât seem to stand normal after staying up for a moment. I like how messy you are and yet put together. I like your face and your eyes and you. I like you for how you are.â
âWell, Jackson, your strategy isnât really good. I mean, teasing a girl to get her attention usually just works in books,â she told him.
Percy couldnât believe it. He just poured her a cup of his heart and she decides to dump it into the ocean.
âBut this is nice,â she eventually added. âI like this side of you. The quite and vulnerable one. The one whoâs flirty and sarcastic in a lovable way. The one who fakes his death to make me laugh.â
âWhat does that mean now?â Maybe she didnât dump it all in the ocean. Only a part of it. The part she didnât like.
âIt means that if you show me more of that side, I could eventually start liking you too. Would that be alright?â She asked hoping for a yes and a agreement from him.
She got more though. She got a relieved âyesâ, a promise and a smiling and blushing boy.

comfort and care
FEATURING: percy jackson x reader
summary: for the past few days, you've been noticing a change in percy's demeanor as of late. from the bags gathering under his eyes from lack of sleep to his more irritable nature, everything had screamed "wrong" to you. in your attempts to find some resolve, you set out to find ways to tend to his needs.
contents: sad!percy, poor boy is struggling (specifics aren't mentioned) and needs comfort, fluff, angst, mentions of lack of personal care (such as poor sleep and struggling emotional health), percy not being kind to himself (dismissing his feelings), concerned!reader, cute couple moments, reader takes care of percy, mentions of cooking but can easily be ignored or altered if you can't cook, percy calling you babe, i hope percy doesn't seem ooc in this.
note" thank you so much to everyone who showed support to my first percy x reader, as that really warmed my heart. this one came to mind when i thought about how little x reader imagines there are that involve percy receiving comfort and felt like our boy needed someone to be able to vent to. ergo, this came to be. hope you enjoy!
You first noticed it during one of your weekly Iris Messaging calls with Percy, a familiar routine the two of you had come up with when you both had to leave camp to return to your respective household during the school season. It had helped ease the long-distance separation, considering demigods weren't allowed electronic devices such as phones with the risk of drawing the attention of monsters, and allowed for you both to speak for hours and hours without worrying about racking up on a phone bill. It was a bonus that it allowed you to see one another, especially now.
While it was evident that Percy was attempting to hide any signs of fatigue, you had known him well enough to see past the feeble attempts and hesitantly brought the issue forward. "You look tired," you had said, eyes scanning over his frame through the hazy messaging system. "When was the last time that you slept?"
At the question, Percy let out a soft laugh, waving his hand in dismissal. "C'mon, babe, let's not weigh down our talk with boring stuff like my sleep schedule. Wouldn't you like to focus on something more interesting?"
To which you retorted. "I would like focus on making sure that my boyfriend is doing okay, taking care of himself. That would interest me just fine."
The inky haired boy let out a small sound that rumbled in the back of his throat, taking in your words and the unwavering concern in your gaze. A part of him practically leaned towards you (or more so you image), wanting to seek you out for as much comfort as he could gain. But another, more darker part of him, had drew him to a halt and left his previous wants to plunder into nothing more than wants rather than needs.
"It's nothing, really." Lie. "I've just been stressed with school is all." Another lie, well, partially. "You know I'm not the sharpest tool in the box." He was attempting to be humorous, in hopes of drawing away your concern on to something else. It didn't work.
Your burrows narrowed in a way he'd only seen when you get protective over things that you care about, and being on the receiving end of that look made him wince. "Don't be so hard on yourself," you said with a stern tone. "Besides, I don't like it when people insult my boyfriend. He's a genius in his own ways."
"Even when it's me?"
"Especially when it's you." A part of you warmed slightly when you notice a glint of gratitude sparkle in the inky haired boy's eyes at your defense, even if it was from his own self. But, even with that, it did little to provide any solution to the dilemma at hand as Percy had used quick thinking to find a way of branching to a new subject that, before you knew it, left little room for you to return to your concerns before you both had to call it a night.
That didn't mean that this problem was over, nor would your attempts to fix it be hindered.
It would seem so that you weren't the only one to notice Percy's shift as most of your friends had noticed it too. From Annabeth, who was ready to report any of her findings discovered during the pairs talks with one another to you or other members of the Seven dropping casual hints of concern (Jason had mentioned that he noticed Percy's hands tremble whenever they would drag across his face, Leo had noted that his jokes---which were usually funny---had either fallen flat or gave a vibe of uneasiness, Hazel had commented on the way his smile no longer reached his eyes and so on). You had used your family phone to call Sally who at the time was nowhere near Percy, thankfully, and had nearly broken down to you over the phone about her worries. She had done the best she could, but she was only one person.
It didn't take you long to formulate a plan, all that was needed was a way of travel to the Jackson's residence. It was lucky for you that a certain son of Hades had been open to the idea of helping as he dropped you off via shadow travel in front of the apartment complex. After a thanks of gratitude, the di Angelo boy left with saying "Tell Percy that I hope he gets better" before disappearing into the shadows.
You had already informed Sally and Paul of your plan, and the two had readily abided by it by taking Estelle on a trip around the city, leaving you and Percy to have some alone time. By the time you had gotten to your destination, a sudden bundle of nerves had crept their way inside you as you waited for Percy to open the door. What if he didn't want you here? What if it only made him more upset? What if you being here simply did nothing at all?
All your thoughts were put on hold when the boy himself threw open the door, a look of surprise marking his features as he took you in, as if trying to determine whether you were really there or not.
"Surprise!" You had said with hopefully enthusiasm, a conscious smile painting your face as you waited for a response.
Instead of words, a pair of strong arms circled you and pulled you into a muscular chest, body molding around yours as two became one in a matter of seconds. "You're here." Percy mumbled, though more as a statement than surprise even though your sudden appearance was one for sure.
"Of course I am, babe." You smiled into his chest, rubbing your hands up and down his back in a way that you hoped would bleed all the love and comfort from your heart that you wished give.
It didn't take long for him to pull you in to the shelter of his apartment, and even less before the two of you reached his bedroom. You both had fallen on to his bed, laying side by side facing one another with a little distance to allow you to look into each other's eyes. It was moments like these were almost anything in the world could be happening, right outside the window even, and neither of you would care. All that would matter would be the warmth of your bodies pressed together, fingers interlocking in a complex hold that neither of you wanted to be freed from, and the mingling of your even breaths dancing with one another in the faintly lit room.
"I wished you told me that you were coming. I would've cleaned up a bit." Percy joked, waving a hand in the direction towards his mess of a room before rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
You let out snort, raising your hand to card your fingers through his messy locs. A smile pulled on your lips at the soft mewl that emitted from your boyfriend before he ducked his face into your neck. "I don't mind, I think my happiness at seeing you might overpower some of my observation skills."
Percy hummed. "Maybe I'm in luck then." You could tell that he was attempting to divert the conversation again, already knowing the reason for your abrupt visit. And a part of you was almost inclined to do so, wrapped in the comfort of your lover's embrace, physically after weeks of Iris Messages that left you only wanting more. But this social visit wasn't for you. As much as you wanted to lounge around all day, hearing Percy rattle off details of his days away or a spiel of jokes that would be sure to make you laugh.
But now was not the time.
"Percy," You whisper softly after a moment, thumb rubbing against the junction where his neck met his shoulders. He shivered, whether at the movement or your voice as the question he had been awaiting. "I've known you for a long time, like you've known me, and I can tell when something is wrong. Just as you would for me. And you and I both know that something is wrong. You haven't been yourself lately."
Percy didn't speak. His face remained hidden in your neck.
"You don't have to tell me right now as I won't force you. But I just want you to know that I'm here, and so are the others...if you ever want or need..." you pause, your hand stopping in its movements down his spine when you felt his body tremble beside you. "Percy?"
Labored breathing turned into harsh, muffled sobs that shook your heart with each one. Percy's usually tall frame clung to you as he pressed his face further into your neck, if that was even possible, littering the skin with a river of tears. The more he tried to speak, as if believing he had to explain himself, the more his words were choked by the sobs. You simply held him closer, pulling his body further into yours and caressing him from his back to his neck to scalp and back again, whispering comforting phrase from one's of love to one's of reassurance.
"It's all right," you whispered as he shook, running your nose along his temple. "You've been holding this in for a long time and now it's time to let it out. I've got you."
You both stayed like that until Percy's tears had run dry, until his heavy sobs turned into weak hiccups until his body stopped shaking and his breathing evened into one accompanied by an eased sleep. His body fell lacks at your side, his breaths tickling your skin every now and again. The collar of your shirt was dampened from Percy's tears, but you paid it no mind as you carded your fingers through his hair, soothing him even in his sleep because it was what he needed. What he deserved.
A thought had popped into your head when you felt your stomach growl in attention, your hunger taking focus as you realized, after looking at the clock on the bedside, how much time had past since between your arrival and now. Raising to your feet, taking precautions not to wake the sleeping boy, you slipped out of the room and towards the kitchen. Sally had been kind enough to offer to cook something before leaving, but you had simply offered to make something instead and leave one less thing for her to worry about.
You were an hour or so into cooking, the scents floating into the air and clouding throughout the apartment, when you heard hurried footsteps making their way down the hall. Glancing over your shoulder you watched as Percy slid into the room, his appearance ruffled from sleep but his eyes wide and alert as they scanned the room, searching for something. Or someone, more like it, as they stopped when they landed on you.
It seems as if a weight had left his shoulders as they dropped, no longer tense, and he easily made his way towards you. You were in his arms in less than a second, his face pressed into your hair as he breathe in deeply. "I almost thought it was all a dream. You being here."
You hummed, smiling into his arm. "Glad that I'm not?"
"You have no idea." You stood like that for a few moments, occasionally rocking back and forth to keep blood flowing through your legs when Percy spoke again. "Thank you. Thank you for...for..."
But you shushed him, shaking your head as you met his eyes. No words needed to be said, and he understood. His gaze drifted over to the assemble littering the kitchen counter with a raised brow. "Anything that I can help with?"
"Think you can handle it?"
This caused him to snort. "Please, I was raised by the Sally Jackson, learning how to cook was a given." He cracked his knuckles and rolled his shoulders confidently, moving closer the counter. "Now, chef, tell me what we're working with."
"Yes, chef!"

Random thought.
Percy was always seeking academic validation because it seemed like the one way to get his parents to be proud of him. I mean come on they had 7 children so they basically had to fight for attention, the twins did it by acting out and Percy did it by becoming that 'perfect child'.
After the war, he doesn't reunite with his family and didn't want to go back to the corrupt ministry. He always focused on academics that it just felt draining. What if he never wanted to work in the ministry. After all that happened, who would?
So he joins a band full of muggleborns, squibs and they're all like a big happy family of rejects but it's okay, they have each other. He becomes the drummer of the group and is happy.
He grows his hair out a bit and it reached his shoulder and he ties it into a low ponytail all because his little girls love them. He would literally do anythign for his daughters. He could not be a dead beat dad. Like he grew up in a family of 9 people. He saw the problems, the occasional bad parenting and the effects it had. He was a good dad and no one can fuckign change my mind. Oh and his wife died. Just to add to his angst. Like Audrey wasn't really mentioned as much so SINGLE DAD.
Oh and they all LGBT. I love my precious little drummer boy.
SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A 50K WORD ONESHOT FIC OF THIS FROM THE WEASLEYS POV

Imagine that the Weasleys switch ages or smt
Like: Ginny, Bill, Ron, Charlie, Percy and the twins
And they keep the same age gap so Ginny and Bill have already graduated by the time Harry entered Hogwarts so Ron's the prefect in his fifth year, Charlie in thrid and Percy on his first
Would be fun that his two best friends (if Percy replaces Ro'n as his best friends) are two know-it-all's that are like constantly teaching stuff. I think that Hermione and Percy will also clash a bit like the og Ron did but in a different way. Like they are academic rivals and that be so much fun. They're both seeking validation from their academic success. Also if idk, want a rivals to lovers you have this two better than make Hermione date her bully imo
And during summer Harry stops responding so Percy is like "I think Harry is in trouble, he doesn't responds to my letters anymore" and Charlie goes "Oh, shoot. Do you want to go see how he is?" "Can we do that?" "For sure!" "What does Ron say?" "He doesn't care as long as we don't get arrested" "Okay!" And they fly to get Harry and now he is in the burrow having the time of his life.
And then the twins are like "I can't believe my loser brother's bestfriends is the mf Harry Potter!"
If you ship any of the twins with Harry you can just make them want to steal Harry's attention from Percy and that would be okay. The twins pranking Percy like double hard because they want Harry to think they're cool and then backfire (or no because young Harry wouldn't be really confrontational tbh)
I imagine that Ginny is a profesional quidditch player (or training to be one) so she is around but really busy and travelling with her team and stuff. Visited that summer and Harr is like "wow". So you got a bit of one side hinny also going on like in the og story.
But I have thought about also swaping other characters age, like Oliver Wood and Hermione Granger.
I think it kind of makes more sense that Oliver is Harry's first friend and then Percy. So imagine Oliver Profesional Quidditch lover Wood seen his friend be like a natural gifted quidditch player so he is the one teaching him all about quidditch and stuff.
Harry would have two quidditch obsessed people in his life: Charlie inside the team and Oliver outside it. And then you got Percy info dumping every once in a while. I think it would be fun. He would also learn a lot about the wizarding world during his first year. Maybe Percy explaining stuff to him and he asking questions back.
There would be so many new dynamics and would be so much fun.
I'd like to think that Mcgonagall would be more involved. Idk. I think she's really fond of Percy and Oliver. So maybe she keeps an eye on them a lot. AND ALSO CHARLIE.
Like, he is always going to be a big brother for Percy imo. And him being more involved would change a lot of things so more fun. He isn't as involved but it's like occasionally telling Percy to relax and stuff. Also Ton having the opportunity to be an older brother and scooding the twins for their constant pranks. He's def more lay back compared to Hermione that as a prefect would scold them more often.
Idk
I think about them a lot
This au can go in so many ways and I love every single one of them, except if you make any of the Weasleys a complete a-hole for no reason. Specially if is Percy because that's my boy right there and I don't want any hate to himđŤľ

Reading TLH again #4 - the tragedy of Jason/Piper
So we shall begin Piper McLean's character arc!
We had 2 chapters of Jason and in the third, Piper takes the reels of the narrative and we get to know her more inwardly.
I would like to begin this meta stating how Piper, from the three new demigods, are the most calm one.
While Jason is sort of used to this magical world, he feels confused and, because he is a logical person, feels the need to question everything, even if, deeply inside, he already knows the answers to his questions.
Leo is, apparently, excited by the new world he got into. He is curious and not afraid of new things, so he seems happy and satisfied in securing a place for himself in that strange magical camp.
So: Jason is still confused (this phrase is getting repetitive, but this is basically Jason's mental state through the whole book), Leo is excited and Piper is...feeling dreadful, but weirdly accepting.
It made me remember how Piper is actually a really cool-headed character. She doesn't freak out much. From what I remember, she usually keeps her worries and fears for herself, which makes a lot of room for misunderstandings and omission (one of the things that annoyed me about her in my first read).
Interesting observation #1: Piper is in love with Jason
She seems to be deeply in love with him, which is really sad since we already know he was an illusion. Their relationship starts pretty badly because of these manufactured feelings she has for an idea of him.
She is disturbed by the fact that he acts like he doesn't know her. It is, in her view, the most worrying thing that happened in the day.
This is sick u guys, I feel bad for them.
Another thing that made me think about their situation: Piper was the one actively seeking Jason's attention before they met.
Even in her fantasy, she is the one doing the groundwork. It makes Jason appear as a dense boy lol (spoiler: he kinda of is).
And then she tells us that their "relationship" is new. She spent a whole semester working on it before they got together. For her, they were best friends before being lovers. She has been hallucinating with Jason for at least 6 months now.
She can already feel Jason slipping through her fingers like sand. He is escaping her, going far away, somewhere she can't follow. Except she never really had him. He was never hers for her to lose, so what, exactly, is she losing then? Or rather, who?
Their beginning is a tragedy (and so is their ending), but is so much more sad reading their circumstance through Piper's emotional point of view. She feels like she owns him something, and that he owns her something in return. They were supposed to be a pair.
Another thing I would like to comment: Jason has a powerful aura, but if you look closer, he also gives sad vibes. He is a sad character. If Percy is anger, Jason is sadness. (I will make a post especially analyzing the seven's dynamics later)
Interesting observation #2: Annabeth's suspicious already
Annabeth's first feeling towards Jason is ressentiment, like we saw previously.
Here, her ressentiment turns into outright distrust. She is suspicious of him and his entire demeanor is not helping. Annabeth is smart, she is the kind of character that usually doesn't have difficult into look past beyond the Gods schemes.
She knows, she feels, that Jason has something to do with Percy disappearing. The fact he screams NOT GREEK is not helping too.
Jason always has answers he is not aware and Annabeth sees he has history.
Their dynamic is super cool in MoA, seeing them in the beginning is very amusing. They are similar in a lot of things, both are great leaders for the rest of the crew in the Argo II, but here they are getting under each other's skin. Annabeth because of distrust and Jason because of wariness.
Interesting observation #3: The late claim of Leo and Piper
Does anyone else thinks about this weird timing surrounding Leo and Piper's claim?
We know Leo has history with Hera. She has been in his life since he was a kid, so I kind of buy the idea of her shielding his existence until the right time for her plan.
But Piper? From what I remember, the gods didn't meddle with her life until now, in the Wilderness School. I don't understand why Aphrodite took so long to claim her. After the war, every kid should have been brought to camp at 13, and those older should have been there already.
They both don't describe weird encounters with random monster like Percy do in TLT too, so I assume nothing out of ordinary happened in their life up till now (except the whole Leo fiasco, but that wasn't a monster, so I'm not counting).
Coach also says that they are powerful, and their scents are quite strong (not big three strong, but still), so why this timing is so off?
Anyway, I don't have an absolute answer to this, but is something that makes me wonder about things, so I brought it here. Any theories?
Interesting observation #4: Percy's disappearance being a huge thing
The entire camp feels his absence. Percy had rough years at camp, and fought a war to protect it. Everyone there recognizes him as a leader and look up to him for guidance and inspiration (like they did with Luke). This is so satisfying to see, how loved he is!
Percy is not in the book physically, but he is still everywhere. Literally haunts the narrative, I love it (i miss him)!
Interesting observation #5: Piper is fast to judge
From the very first time she lays her eyes upon Drew, she knows they aren't going to be buddies.
Drew also traces fast judgment towards Piper, so maybe is an Aphrodite kid thing, analyzing and defining people in seconds.
Right after we have a lil leader!Jason moment, where he starts asking the important questions for the three of them:
And Piper starting her betrayal arc being sketchy:
Interesting observation #5: Piper can be violent
We had already seen her ready to knock storm spirits without prompt, and now we have her ready to smack Drew's face because she said Piper's hair looked like a dead badger (this is such an Aphrodite kid thing lol)
Bonus points for Piper's quick people judgment (also a very Aphrodite kid thing to me), cause she knows right away to not mess with Annabeth:
Interesting observation #6: Leo is the first being claimed
Jason doesn't count to me cause he already is claimed, he just doesn't remember (and Zeus doesn't acknowledge him). I assume Piper is claimed later because Aphrodite loves to put up a show.
But Hephaestus is pretty efficient in claiming Leo right away. He is a very straightforward god after all, so it makes sense.
Interesting observation #7: Will is Leo's assorted tour guide, and possibly his first Camp Friend
Their interaction is so small and in the beginning of the first book of a series of 5 books that we tend to forget that, before his brothers and sister, Leo's first camp friend/acquaintance was Will Solace. Odd friendship, I know, but it was there for a chapter at least.
Interesting observation #8: Piper is still thinking of Jason as her boyfriend
Piper is getting a whiplash next chapter when Annabeth explains what is happening with Jason to her, because right now, in her head, she still has a boyfriend. A boyfriend who is acting very weirdly, but still her boyfriend.
In the next hours, she is losing him for real. Poor Piper.
And Annabeth is still finding Jason's existence unnerving. His mere presence is rising lots of questions in her head. I love how Annabeth is zero chill, the girl is always plotting or trying to dissected the plot.
Interesting observation #9: Jason has 12 years of military service. He is 15.
Man, Camp Jupiter go all out on the claiming of their kids uh? They literally burn the tattoo on your skin, marking you one of their own.
Jason has been in the legion for twelve years. At this point in the timeline he is 15 y.o. Make the calc guys, this boy has been in active duty since he was THREE YEARS OLD. Unbelievable.
No wonder why Jason has almost none rebel cells in his body. They indoctrinated him with military mentality since, like, forever. All he has always known was duty and honor. Never questioning, always serving. That is part of the reason why he is The Order and Percy is The Chaos. They are foils.
Here we have a lil moment of Jason being tired of people asking questions he doesn't know the answer to. Let ma boy rest, he is amnesic:
Kudos to Annabeth being the unquestionable Camp Leader, ultimately respected by her peers:
With this, I rest my case. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

I Start Over With You
[SOLANGELO FANFIC]
summary: After the great battle against the forces of Gaea, Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter had formed a long-lasting alliance. Everything had gone well, and everyone was ready to start anew. This included Nico, who, after confessing his feelings to Percy, was prepared to open a new chapter in his lifeâperhaps the happiest one the Fates had ever written.
note: the chapters will be updated every Wednesday. If you want to read upcoming chapters of the fanfiction in advance, I invite you to follow me on Patreon. Subscribing is not necessary, these chapters will be added for free on the platform on Mondays and Fridays. Following me there is just a kind and free gesture to support my work c:

[CHAPTER 2]
THAT HERBAL INFUSION Will had prepared for him was slowly beginning to take effect.
In a few days, Nico felt his strength returning, although not enough to summon an army of zombies or any specters. During that week, the son of Apollo followed his progress step by step, enthusiastic to see Nico back in good health and with rosier cheeks. The two found themselves spending that week together, talking mostly about the side effects that an abrupt effort might have during the intake of that kind of energy drink made from herbs. Nico began to enjoy spending time with Will, even though he often repeated the same things to him, and he responded in the same way. It had to be said, however, that the son of Apollo really did his best to make him feel at ease, knowing that it was not easy for him to trust someone other than himself. In a corner of his mind, Will began to wonder what had happened to Nico di Angelo in those years, remembering perfectly the first time he met him at Camp Half-Blood: sunny, energetic, none of the newcomers to the camp could imagine that the son of Hades was once the opposite of what he was now. Not that there was anything wrong with Nico now, it was just that Will no longer wanted to see him feel like he was without someone who cared for him. He would do anything to see that beautiful smile that spread across the boy's face again, bending over in two graceful dimples. He knew that deep down, somewhere under that grim expression, there was still that eleven-year-old boy who played hide-and-seek with the nymphs of the woods; he just had to be patient and wait for Nico to open up to him. However, this meant building a solid relationship of trust first. Will couldn't have asked for anything better. Then the end of that week came, and the two found themselves having one last chat in the infirmary. "See? You also have a much better complexion" exclaimed Will, proudly looking at Nico's no longer cadaverous skin. "From tomorrow, you could already take a walk in the dark" he suggested. The two were face to face, and Nico couldn't believe what he had just heard. "Are you serious?" he asked, to make sure he wasn't imagining it. "Yes" Will affirmed, smiling. "But I'm not saying to go, I don't know, to Bali and back. Try to do it in the camp, so if you faint, I can be around" he laughed as if it were a very funny joke, but they both knew that the son of Hades would be capable of disappearing for weeks. Nico nodded, he wasn't planning on traveling the world, at least not immediately. "I'll stay around" he promised, hinting at an imperceptible smile. "But wait!" he exclaimed a moment later, attracting Will's attention. "Does that mean we won't see each other forâ" he made a vague gesture with his hand, he wasn't good with words, but he was sure the boy had understood. Will gave a laugh, looking at his joined hands. "The week is over" he curled his lips, as if he had just realized that the last day had arrived. "But that doesn't mean we can't hang out" he raised his blue eyes. "I'd like that" he added, showing a shy smile. Nico didn't think that Apollo's children could be shy. "I'd like that too" Nico replied after a few seconds, managing to show a faint smile.
It had been five days since that last chat, and Nico was now able to transport himself in the shadow for a few kilometers, occasionally scaring some child of Ares by accidentally appearing behind them. Will had not contacted him or asked about his favorite patient, nor had Nico done the same. The boy felt quite awkward about it all, not understanding how he should take Will's words. He didn't deny being scared, a situation like this had never happened to him before, he wanted to know how to read those words, what did that "hanging out" mean. He was obsessed with the idea that Will ultimately saw him simply as another boy from Camp Half-Blood, but with a slightly more terrifying parent to stay away from. Perhaps he had only said so to be polite. He spent those days wandering around the camp without a specific destination, and although by now the other campers had grown used to his presence and would greet him without suppressing a sense of disgust or fear, Nico didn't feel completely accepted. He only felt that way when he spent time with Will, where everything seemed to come alive, and he felt like a simple, happy boy again. At that thought, he decided to let go of his crazy thoughts; he preferred to get to know Will as a friend rather than lose him due to his unfounded doubts.
He walked briskly towards the archery range. It was the first time he had set foot there. Every time someone had suggested that he go there to train, he would disappear like a shadow until one day everyone decided to give up and let him do whatever he wanted. That was officially his first time at the range. He didn't know exactly what to do or who to talk to in order to get a bow and quiver, so he decided to ask one of the Apollo campers who was helping a young demigod hold a bow. "Down there" the camper pointed out, after spending five minutes trying to figure out if Nico was really there or some sort of hallucination. Nico thanked him and chose the least worn bow from the basket, along with a quiver. He returned to his target, feeling quite stupid at that moment, but he knew it was the right thing to do to get Will's attention. He took an arrow from the quiver behind his back, nocked it between the taut string and the bow â it wasn't as simple as he thought â took aim and released the arrow, which embedded itself in the ground a meter away from the target. He sighed as he went to retrieve the arrow. Having the eyes of the other campers on him did nothing to help his concentration. He tried again, putting more force into it, managing to hit the target only in the white part, leaving the arrow hanging until it fell to the ground again. He was about to go retrieve it when a voice he knew well stopped him. "And we thought Percy was a disaster" commented the boy who had seen Nico shoot his second arrow from behind. Nico turned towards the boy, who was staring at him with crossed arms and a sarcastic smile. Will chuckled and approached him, stealing another arrow from his quiver. "Let me show you how to do it" he said, turning him towards the target and helping him position the arrow better. "You need to raise your elbow higher and bend your knees" he corrected his posture, standing behind him. "Draw the bow taut" he whispered near his ear, releasing his grip on his arms and as soon as he felt them slip away he shot the arrow, which went to plant itself in the third ring. "Congratulations!" exclaimed Will, patting him on the shoulder. "Maybe you're not a hopeless case like our friend".
They kept trying until all the arrows were gone, with Will by his side he managed to hit the target a couple of times, although he mostly hit the outer circles. "With a little training, you could become a great archer" he encouraged him, he was rather satisfied with his small improvements. Nico just smiled gratefully, not knowing exactly what to say to him, he didn't want to disappear that way, but how could he explain how he felt about people if he couldn't even explain it to himself? He didn't want to make Will feel guilty, he had done his best to open up and be a good friend. "Well then, see you later" he smiled uncertainly, seeing that the boy wasn't intending to start a conversation and then he had his shift at the infirmary. "Wait, Solace" Nico stopped him. "Listen, I don't care about all this stuff" and with a sweeping gesture of his hand he practically indicated the whole camp. "I came to see you" he confessed. "I was sincere in the infirmary, I want, well, I'd like it if we hung out" his cheeks started to warm up with what he had just said. Will remained silent, looking at that strange boy who, he didn't exactly know how, he liked. "I finish my shift at five, wait for me at the bay" he said decisively, throwing him a quick wink. "See you at five!" Nico repeated, watching him walk away.

Ortho's Birthday Bash
GN reader
TW: none
Genre: fluff, angst
Sorry for my absence, I've been busy getting ready for college and speed reading Percy Jackson. I'm working on the Pomefiore Dimensions chapter and it should be coming out soon.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ortho wakes up just like any other day, but heâs oddly saddened to realize itâs his birthday. He should be excited because he got to spend another amazing year with his brother and his new friends at school, but heâs also reminded that heâs just a replacement for something long gone. Iida doesnât mean to but he often avoids Ortho on his birthday, seeing the replicated face of his deceased younger brother only reminds him of another year since he died.
Ortho will go about his day, trying to be bright and cheerful, but he struggles a bit and is hurt by Iidaâs avoidance of him. Some people will notice his strained attempts at conversation and joy, but most just brush it off as birthday jitters. The only one he can confide in is you and you try your best to reassure the small boy, someone youâve started viewing as your own little brother, that Iida is just working through some trauma and uncovered emotions, but he still loves Ortho.
Since Iida is avoiding him, Ortho will try to rebel by seeking you out and staying by your side the whole day. Your friends might get a little annoyed that such a young student is taking away your attention and pestering them, but Ortho will just stick out his tongue at them behind your back and tell them itâs his birthday so he can do whatever he wants.
It gets to the point where Ortho doesnât want to go back to the Ignihyde dorm, so you have to take him back to your dorm. You werenât really prepared for the boy to come back with you, but you suggested that you bake him a cake and hold a birthday celebration for him.
Ortho is overjoyed and doesnât have to fake his happiness as he joins you in the kitchen, helping you mix ingredients and wash dishes. While you wait for the cake to bake, you ask Ortho if he wants some more people to come over to celebrate his birthday, but he gets all shy and asks if it can be a private event. After making the frosting and covering the cake in the sweet cream, you place the birthday candles on top and light them up before presenting the birthday cake to Ortho who sits eagerly at the dining table.
After you sing happy birthday, cut the cake, and enjoy the delicious dessert (Iâm not sure if Ortho can eat food, but I headcanon he likes confetti or rainbow cake), you bring out the birthday present you had prepared for Ortho. Youâve probably gotten him a 3D puzzle, something to test his wit and smarts. Heâs in awe that you got him a special little gift, instantly starting to work on it and try to dissect it.
When heâs almost solved it, there is a soft knock at your dorm room. You leave Ortho to continue with his puzzle while you answer the door, shocked to find Iida standing there awkwardly. Iida tells you that itâs getting late and he was worried about where Ortho had wandered off to. You smile and carefully tell him Ortho has been feeling a bit dejected because his older brother had ignored him most of the day and Iida looks down in shame as he enters the room. You pretend to be busy cleaning up the plates and utensils while Iida and Ortho have a heart-to-heart moment and apologize to each other.
As the two brothers start to leave, better informed on each otherâs emotions, you offer them the rest of the cake and tell them to take care. As Ortho walks ahead, Iida thanks you for watching over his younger brother and alerting him of Orthoâs depression.
When Ortho goes to sleep/recharge that night, Iida surprises him by patting his head and giving his forehead a kiss before stalking off to his own bed. As Ortho falls asleep with a smile on his face, he holds your 3D puzzle close to his chest, near his flaming heart.

chapter three
< previous: chapter two
The taxi exited on Route 25A. They headed through the woods along the North Shore until a low ridge of hills appeared on their left. Annabeth told the driver to pull over on Farm Road 3.141, at the base of Half-Blood Hill.
The driver frowned. "There ain't nothing here, miss. You sure you want out?"
"Yes, please," Annabeth handed him a roll of mortal cash, and the driver decided not to argue.
They hiked to the crest of the hill. The young guardian dragon was dozing, coiled around the pine tree, but he lifted his coppery head as we approached and let Annabeth scratch under his chin.
Steam hissed out his nostrils like from a teakettle, and he went cross-eyed with pleasure.
"Hey, Peleus," Annabeth said. "Keeping everything safe?"
The last time they'd seen the dragon he'd been six feet long. Now he was at least twice that, and as thick around as the tree itself. Above his head, on the lowest branch of the pine tree, the Golden Fleece shimmered, its magic protecting the camp's borders from invasion. The dragon seemed relaxed like everything was okay. Below, the Camp Half-Blood looked peacefulâ green fields, forest, shiny white Greek buildings. The four-story farmhouse called the Big House sat proudly in the midst of the strawberry fields. To the north, past the beach, the Long Island Sound glittered in the sunlight.
Still...something felt wrong. There was tension in the air, as if the hill itself were holding its breath, waiting for something bad to happen.
They walked down into the valley and found the summer session in full swing. Most of the campers had arrived last Friday, so they already felt out of it. It felt like a typical day at camp.
"Feels different, huh?" Harris said observing the camp.
"To be honest, not much. We always have something bad up our ass whenever we are here." Y/N chuckled. She tried not to pay attention to her ex-friends who seemed to be closer than before. Well, isn't that fucking great now that root of their problems is out of the picture?
"Oh boy, you are cranky," Harris said.
"Obviously. Do you think I was seeking their attention or something?" Y/N said, walking towards the Hermes Cabin with him.
"Yes, you were-"
"I dare you to finish that sentence boy," she huffed, face turning red in anger.
"I mean you know I am not lying," he said.
"I want to see them suffer without me. Wanting them to suffer, and wanting their attention are two completely different things."
"Okay, I understand," Harris said, knowing she wasn't about to leave this conversation alone until she wins. She stopped by her steps and looked behind at her two ex-friends. Whatever may be the case, the only thing she is looking forward to talking with Grover.
"Is this how it's gonna be the whole time we are together?" Harris asked pinching her cheek.
Y/N felt a jolt of pain in her chest. She was really putting Harris through all this bullshit and being selfish. She smiled and turned to look at him. "Sorry," she said and leaned to his face.
A smirk slowly formed on his face, "Are you trying to seduce me?" he asked.
"Do you want me to seduce you?" she asked, looking into his eyes. She knew how much of a burden her feelings were on Harris but this feeling...whenever she looked into his eyes, all of her worries washed away.
It was a good decision to move on. She wasn't exactly in a relationship with him. Well, Y/N didn't want to be with him "in order to forget Percy". She didn't want him to be her rebound. She knew he was good to her cause he liked her. It was quite obvious. But he deserved a proper relationship with her if they were in one. He deserved better than her grumbling about her past friends all the time. He deserved to be...pampered, showered with love, gifts, and all the things she always wanted to do for her boyfriend. Just being with him, and forcing herself to do these things for him to forget someone else meant that she didn't put her heart into it.
One thing is for sure, she wanted to put all her heart into a relationship with Harris.
"I need to talk to Clarisse," Annabeth said.
Percy stared at her as if she'd just said I need to eat a large, smelly boot ."What for?"
Clarisse from the Ares cabin was one of his least favorite people. She was a mean, ungrateful bully. Her dad, the war god, wanted to kill him. She tried to beat him to a pulp on a regular basis. Other than that, she was just great.
"We've been working on something," Annabeth said. "I'll see you later."
"Working on what?"
Annabeth glanced toward the forest.
"I'll tell Chiron you're here," she said. "He'll want to talk to you before the hearing."
"What hearing?"
But she jogged down the path toward the archery field without looking back.
"Yeah," he muttered. "Great talking with you, too." He turned back to look at Y/N, but she was not where they were earlier. Instinctively, he turned to look at Hermes Cabin, and oh, look. There she was. Leaning close to Harris whose hands slowly moved towards her cheek. He whispered something in her ears which made her look at Percy, who quickly looked away as if he was caught committing a sin.
He felt a bit of anger rise as well as relief in his veins when he found Y/N muttering something to him with her brows scrunched before stomping away toward the Apollo cabin. The explanation of these feelings was quite simple.
Anger, cause something that Harris said made her look at him with hatred.
And relief. Oh yes, that great feeling of satisfaction cause whatever he said made her angry to the point she refused to talk to Harris and went back to her own cabin instead.
Yes, there was tension in the air. Y/N started looking for Grover and after asking for directions, she was finally able to find him. But not in a very good situation. She didn't expect everyone to be up his neck for what he informed before.
A bunch of satyrs was sitting in a circle in the grass. Grover stood in the middle, facing three really old, really overweight satyrs who sat on topiary thrones shaped out of rose bushes. She has seen the three old satyrs before - they were the Council of Cloven Elders.
Grover was telling them a story. He twisted the bottom of his T-shirt, shifting nervously on his goat hooves. He hadn't changed much since last winter, maybe because satyrs age half as fast as humans. His acne had flared up. His horns had gotten a little bigger so they just stuck out over his curly hair. As she didn't hear it from the beginning, Y/N was unable to understand but she somehow managed to understand the topic.
Standing off to one side of the circle were Annabeth, another girl she'd never seen before, and Clarisse.
She noticed after a while that Chiron entered with Percy and dropped him next to them.
Clarisse's stringy brown hair was tied back with a camouflage bandanna. If possible, she looked even buffer, like she'd been working out. She glared at him and muttered, "Punk," which must've meant she was in a good mood.
Annabeth had her arm around the other girl, who looked like she'd been crying. She was smallâpetite with wispy hair the color of amber and a pretty, elfish face. She wore a green chiton and laced sandals, and she was dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief. "It's going terribly," she sniffled. She looked at Juniper more closely and realized her ears were slightly pointed. Her eyes, instead of being red from crying, were tinged green, the color of chlorophyll. She was a tree nymphâ a dryad.
"No, no," Annabeth patted her shoulders. "He'll be fine, Juniper."
Annabeth looked at Percy and mouthed the words- Grover's girlfriend.
Y/N gasped. Oh, what do you know? She wasn't the only one stepping into a relationship huh?
From what she understood the council was holding a meeting about Grover and how despite hearing Pan, he was not able to find him even after six months. He was trying to convince them how he said the truth, but none of his words were working in his favor. In the end, it was decided that if he was not able to prove his claims within a week, then he would lose his searcher's license.
"This meeting of the council is adjourned," Silenus said. "And now let us enjoy our noonday meal!"
The old satyr clapped his hands, and a bunch of nymphs melted out of the trees with platters of vegetables, fruits, tin cans, and other goat delicacies. The circle of satyrs broke and charged the food.
Grover walked dejectedly toward them. His faded blue T-shirt had a picture of a satyr on it. It read GOT HOOVES?
"Hi, Percy," he said, so depressed he didn't even offer to shake his hand. "That went well, huh?"
"Those old goats!"Juniper said. "Oh, Grover, they don't know how hard you've tried!"
"There is another option," Clarisse said darkly.
"No. No." Juniper shook her head. "Grover, I won't let you."
His face was ashen. "IâI'll have to think about it. But we don't even know where to look."
"What are you talking about?" Percy asked.
Annabeth pursed her lips. "I'll fill you in later, Percy. We'd better get back to our cabins. Inspection will start after some time."
Grover's eyes looked for the missing person in the team, who seemed to be looking at them. He ignored Percy's question and walked towards her. "How...are you doing?"
Y/N chuckled, "It's not as important as your issue. Do you want me to sing something to calm your nerves?"
"No, it's okay. I have to think about this." he looked behind to look at Annabeth and Percy who were trying to console his girlfriend.
"She's pretty," Y/N commented.
Grover turned a bit shy and said, "I know. And I guess you guys haven't talked it out either."
"Nothing is going to change even if we talk about it. Please don't hope for any kind of change. Besides," Y/N cleared her throat, "I'm...trying to get serious about someone else."
"Oh yes, I can see," Grover said looking behind her. She followed his eyes and discovered Harris quietly standing and looking at her. Realizing how her gaze was on him, he waved at her with a smile.
In the distance, a conch horn sounded.
"Inspection is starting, you should leave," Grover said before leaving. Y/N turned to walk toward Harris and said, "I'm sorry for being mad at you but to be fair, you're really making me angry and riling me up these days. So don't worry, I won't dissociate with you because of a stupid issue. For now, you should go to your cabin." She slowly slid her hand to his hair and ruffled it a bit.
Harris found himself staring at her back as she left. Well, he knew how that sea-green-eyed boy would strike up a conversation sooner or later. But he didn't expect it to be so soon.
"Do you know anything about it?" Percy asked walking near Y/N.
"Oh!" Y/N said, startled to feel his presence, "No, I don't know anything."
"Anything about what Annabeth is working on with Clarisse?"
"She's working with who?" Y/N stopped in her tracks to look at him, "Anyways, look Percy, I don't know anything about what she's up to."
"I mean, did you hear anything from anyone about what is going on?" Percy said. He felt impatient as nothing he said made her continue the conversation. She was quick with her responses and knew how to end them fast. "Do you even care?"
"I wouldn't be here in the first place if I didn't care enough. Just for your information, I'll be there where I am needed. I had enough of trying to be nosy about other people's quests and life. I'm done. So just leave me alone, okay?"
Percy pulled her by her hand, "I am really trying you know?" His tone of speaking felt different. Y/N knew he was trying to mend things between them.
"Me too," Y/N chuckled, "Trying so hard to mind my own fucking business for a change."

@xfindingtrouble said: percy kisses astoria to show off for someone else.
The first time she met Sereda, the girl who tended to her before Lenore, she was six years old and guarding a stray cat with the ferocity of a barbarian. Childhood teasing, the boy's mother had insisted, though she'd quaked in fear when Astoria had shown her that wide, slow smile, the cat tucked under one arm and Sereda clinging to her skirt, peering out from behind her knees. She brought both home, cleaned them up, gave them a soft bed and certain food. Sereda. parentless and just as fierce as first impressions would lead Astoria to believe, received tutors and tailors and, though she's nearing fifty now, calls Astoria sister to this day.
The cat had, by that point, had quite enough of a six-year-old's clumsy care, and took to perching on Astoria's bookshelves and hissing furiously at anyone who came near it. Melora, Sereda's predecessor, wouldn't stay in the same room as it without someone else present, certain that one day the cat would lose its patience and murder them all. After a few too many bites and scratches, Sereda kept her distance, too. Only Astoria made any attempt, watching with mild amusement as the jagged tears in the backs of her hands healed before her eyes. Still, despite its bursts of violence, the cat followed her everywhereâalways a few feet behind her when she went into her workshop, sleeping on top of a pile of her notes and swatting furiously if Astoria disturbed it. And whenever Astoria let a hand rest on its head or scratched idly behind its ears it looked as though it was contemplating raining down an impossibly powerful wrath upon her before it leaned wholeheartedly into the gentle touch, the gestures of affection, the absentminded love she offered. It headbutted her hands, took to sleeping in her lap, draped itself across her shoulders, started answering when Astoria called for it. Sereda called it Pumpkin. Melora called it beast. Astoria called him sweet thing. She thinks of him often, as she thinks of all the cats she's looked after, and the way he'd pretend not to want to be touched only to seek out her attention every chance he got, in the inscrutable way of cats.
Percy, she realized in the early days of their courtship, before either of them called this what it was, reminds her often of that cat. Pleasant company despite his capacity for brutality (perhaps, if Astoria's being honest, because of it, at least in part), but startled by any genuine affection from her, enough so to forget to be wary of it. She'd made the connection the first time he laid his head in her lap and fell asleep there, slipping into dreamless quiet after spending the night before fitful with nightmares. She'd carded her fingers absentmindedly through his hair until he stirred, and when she paused, he nudged his head into her palm, as if to encourage her to continue the touch, all without waking. Experimentally, Astoria had resumed, and with her free hand she'd stroked a careful line along the bridge of his nose, and swore she'd caught sight of a smile in his sleep.
That had been the first time but certainly not the last, and in the weeks and months that followed, as the both of them danced carefully around any honest admission as to the nature or strength of their feelings, she found herself mimicking the cat, too. They fussed over the state of her hair, sometimes gathering the hairbrush from her hand to tend to it without interference. She found herself reaching out to touch them whenever she could, extending an arm to brush her fingers against their elbow, stretching her legs to gently nudge her toes against their thigh. It was much the same process: just as she had with the cat, she and Percy carved out a home for the other, opened a guarded heart to admit family.
He has that cat's pride, too, appearing unconcerned and even haughty as he kept a catalogue of every offense, every insult. It's why he's so often more troubled than she is by the whispers that follow them, by the suggestions that perhaps Lord Percival's choice of bride left something to be desired. She can hardly blame the people for their distrust; the last vampire so close to the city's rule had been devastating. And the diplomats don't faze her.
"I find it hard to be bothered by infantile mockery," she'd said to Cassandra once, when Cassandra had asked her, in that wonderfully direct way of hers, if she wanted a diplomat ousted from the castle for an insult aimed her way. Said diplomat had been uneasy at Cassandra's clear disapproval, and averted his eyes in silent shame when Astoria's nonchalance carried clearly through the room. "I have been practicing politics since his grandfather was in nappies and I have forgotten more than he'll ever know. Should he have something useful to contribute to our conversations, I'll take his disapproval seriously."
Percy, for their part, had been furious at the disrespect shown to their wife, and has yet to forget it, years later. (She thinks of the cat and the way he punished her for spilling wine on his favorite cushion, weeks and weeks later when she presented him with a new one, lifting a leg to piss on it while keeping eye contact with her. She'd been so charmed by the sheer strength of his personality that she couldn't even pretend at anger. Somehow, she imagines she'll react similarly when Percy finally lets loose their cold fury.)
In the three years since their wedding they have yet to grow bored with one another, and though Percy is admirably focused on the business of administering over Whitestone, he is nevertheless more focused when she is on-hand, if only because his eyes don't wander to the curve of her hips and waist (thanks to the corset he'd tied himself mere hours before) while she's walking across the room, and he doesn't find himself forgetting to absorb what he's told because he heard the ring of her laughter from the other end of the hall. She would tease were she not the same, utterly entranced by the furrow of his brow or the quick, clever movements of his hands as he gestures and speaks. Better, they have both learned, if they simply stay nearby one another.
It's how she knows he hears the conversation occurring not far from them, two women speaking just loudly enough that they can, from where they're standing, pick out nearly every word. He's got a glass of wine in one hand, the other at Astoria's face as he fixes a stray curl for her, when his fingers freeze and he clenches his jaw, the tension in his muscles visible to her and near enough that she almost raises a hand to smooth her fingers against his skin and try to soothe him.
"You'd think one vampire was enough," the first woman says, and she lets out a sigh. "Lord Frederick and Lady Johanna must be turning over in their graves."
"Is she even still considered noble?" Her companion seems genuinely curious, despite the snide tone of her gossip, and the first woman laughs.
"At least she had the good sense not to take the name. An undead de Rolo." She sighs again. "Nobility doesn't mean a thing in circumstances like these. I could say my dog is noble, but I still wouldn't let him eat at the table with people."
The hand at her cheek is very nearly shaking with rage, and Astoria simply turns her face to their palm, presses a kiss there. She wonders what bothers them the most: that strangers dare speak of their parents like this, that they dare speak of her like this, or that she'd made the same argument when she said she should, perhaps, refrain from taking their name.
("De Rolo or no," she'd said softly, sweetly, hands folded over their abdomen and chin propped up on her fingers, their knees bent and ankles bracketing her hips, their fingers twisting in the tangled mess of her hair, "I am utterly, irrevocably, eternally yours." Words like eternity mean something to her, Percy knows. "Your name is symbolic of liberation. It means something more than I could ever put into words to the people. I don't want to take that from them. Whatever my name is, I love them like you do." She'd shifted forward, pressed a kiss to their collarbone, before settling back where she'd been, and pretended to be surprised when they guided her back up by her hair so they could press their mouth to hers and roll her over, pin her gently to the bed beneath them.)
The second woman laughs nervously. "At least she's not on the council," she says, as though perhaps dog is a step too far, and she's trying to bring the insults to a more civilized place.
"Of all the de Rolos, one would think that the clever one would know better than to fall into bed with a dead woman. Do you think she's enchanted him somehow?"
"Maybe he's just in love. It wouldn't be the first time someone was foolish because of love."
"Love," the first woman said gravely, "is not reason enough to condemn your only surviving family, and the well-being of your city."
Her companion seems uneasy now, and she says, voice halting, "Surely Lady Cassandraâafter all she sufferedâwould not have allowed such magic to defile her home again. Surely she's had a cleric see to him if there was any concern."
The first woman says, "It's not just arcane magic. Spread legs can be just as deadly as a spell," and Astoria laughs at that, bright and ringing and loudly enough that the two women stop speaking and look at her. When they do, Astoria meets the first woman's eyes, then the second's, and winks. The second woman grabs the first by the arm and leads her away, farther into the room, and Astoria looks back at her husband, and this time she does raise her hand to rest gently against his cheek, thumb stroking his skin.
Percy looks down at her in surprise, as if he'd forgotten, in his anger, that she was there at all, and he softens at once, lets Astoria distract him with discussion of the wine and a conversation with a visiting academic she'd invited herself so he might enjoy a bit of theory unrelated to his current projects. He's earned a bit of learning for learning's sake. Still, his eyes wander to the women, and when he stops his sister to ask for their names, Astoria thinks of the cat again.
She thinks of the boys, surely no more than fifteen, who'd wandered through her woods and thrown smooth stones her way from the trees; it was amusing more than anything, given that one of the boys had been the child her sweet Sereda had so loathed, and that they'd deliberately waited until Sereda was in town, knowing that if she were present she'd have chased after all of them with a broomstick in one hand and a frying pan in the other. It was only the cat with her, and Astoria had scooped him up to shield him from any projectiles, though the stones only bounced harmlessly at her feet, the boys' aim and strength both wanting.
But the cat, perceiving insult and potential injury to his family, had hissed. He spat and writhed in her grasp until he'd wriggled free and he'd launched himself at one of the boys with a scream, left him with a gash in his cheek and a bite so deep in his hand that it was terribly infected for days after and resulted in a rather concerning fever. And then, calm as can be, the cat had returned to her, and climbed into her lap, and settled in the shade provided by the tree she sat under and the grey of the sky. He fell asleep there and when she lifted him into her arms to head back inside he pressed his cold, wet nose to her cheek and rubbed his face against her jaw, as if to say, you are mine, and only I am permitted to draw blood, and only in good fun.
Percy, she thinks, has the same look in his eyes that the cat had all those years ago. She doesn't question it when he slips away from her apologetically to have a word with someone about the seating arrangements, and by the time they've sat down to begin eating, she's forgotten the women's faces, pleased to be sitting between her husband and Allura, visiting from Emon.
It's not until she hears a loud, joyous bark from one of the tables that she tears herself away from the conversation they're having, and she sees the first woman seated beside the head of one of the tables, displaced from where Astoria was certain she'd originally been seated in favor of the hunting hound they'd been gifted last year. Melchior is now at the table's head, looking immeasurably pleased by the current arrangement. The servant attending to the dog looks at the woman witheringly when she complains, and Astoria has to strain to hear the servant's response.
"This dog," the servant explains, "is the treasured companion of Lord Percival and Lady Astoria, a skilled hunter, a noble beast deserving of only the finest treatment, and he shall not be fed scraps on the kitchen floorâ"
Astoria looks at Percy. Percy raises his eyebrows and smiles, looking satisfied, and catches her hand in his, brings her fingers to his lips so he can press a kiss there. She wonders if he's simply bored tonight, if he's planned such a specific revenge, or if the insult was simply a step (or five) too far for him to forgive.
The second part of their revenge comes when they stand to address the guests, glass raised, voice warm. Their speech is an unremarkable one for the most partâwe thank you for joining us, for your friendship to Whitestone. A word here and there about Whitestone's current projects, a longer word in honor of Vex'ahlia, who couldn't join them but is nevertheless remembered fondly in her absence, as Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt and the Champion of Pelor.
"And I would like to direct your attention once more, this time to my wife, Astoria de Roloâpardon me, Grimâ" And here Astoria's eyebrows raise, but she doesn't react beyond that and a smile. "âwhose generous patronage of the arts in the city has allowed us to turn our attention to the reconstruction of the amphitheater, a project we have long had to delay. She has breathed such life back into this city."
Part two of his revenge completed, he sits again, and the dinner commences.
The final part comes when the plates have been cleared from the tables and the guests are mingling again, Melchior led out from the hall after gorging happily on a cut of meat that Astoria suspects was superior to his neighbor's. They step out to a balcony, eager for a breath of fresh air and a chance for relative quiet, and Astoria follows them out, stands beside them at the railing, careful not to touch them until she's seen that they want the sensation of her cool skin on theirs. "Quite a speech, my love," she says after a moment, and they chuckle, casting a smile her way.
"Did you enjoy it?"
"Immensely. Particularly the slip in which you forgot my name." She grins to match him, though she sobers after a moment. "She really bothered you, didn't she?"
He's silent for a moment before he answers. "You know how I think of you," he says finally. "And you know how I value you."
"I do."
"Sometimes," he confesses, and he reaches up to tuck that misbehaving curl behind her ear again, "it drives me mad that not everyone knows those things."
"Sweet thing," she murmurs, and she presses a kiss to the soft underside of his wrist. "I appreciate your defense of my honor. I could always eat her., if she's really upset you."
"Not satisfied with the nuts and berries?"
"The blackberries had turned," she says sadly, and Percy chuckles again, and turns to face her. His hand falls to her chin, and he grasps her jaw in his fingers, tips her head upwards towards him. The balcony is in clear sight of anyone inside and near the door, including the two women they'd heard before, but he doesn't seem bothered by their lack of privacy.
They lean down to kiss her and Astoria reaches up to meet them partway, and she all but melts into them, the powerful certainty of their kiss and the strength of their hand settling on her side, fingers gripping tightly enough that were she still human, it would leave a bruise. She doesn't challenge this unexpected reversal of roles, Percy's gentle but unwavering dominance over her in these moments; she only leans into him more, with all the desperate need of a woman starving and in the presence of a fest.
He kisses her like he means to swallow her whole. He kisses her like he loves her, simple as that, and Astoria's own hands come to his wrist, his face, and she thinks that she has done this thousands of times and never once has it been anything less than miraculous. She breathes in the subtle scent of lavender on his skin and his clothes, brushes her fingers over the smooth plane of his jaw, and when they separate she feels an aching hunger for more of him settle into her chest, hollow and needy and wanting. When she gets him back to the room they share there will be no separating them, she's sure.
When he pulls back from her she chases his lips and he laughs, concedes, kisses her again. Neither one of them stop for the audience, and the familiar faces there, peering into the night and their shapes wound around one another.

In âNo Hard Feelings,â a comedy made for Jennifer Lawrence
LAS VEGAS
Jennifer Lawrence has wanted to do a big comedy for years. She has always been funny and vibrant in her television appearances. And while she has brought humor and physical comedy to many of her roles for David O. Russell and others, she also hasnât exactly gotten the big, broad âDumb and Dumber" or âAnchormanâ experience, to cite some of her favorites (or at least the ones she's memorized).
That changes this summer with â No Hard Feelings â (in theaters June 23), a classic, raunchy R-rated comedy that was tailor made for her.
âIâve always wanted to do a comedy. And Iâve read a lot of them,â Lawrence told The Associated Press last week in Las Vegas. âI just didnât read anything that was funny enough.â
âNo Hard Feelingsâ was inspired by a real Craigslist ad posted by parents who were seeking a woman to âdateâ their son to bring him out of his shell the summer before he went to college. There are debates over just how real the âreal ad" was, but thinking about the woman who might answer an ad like that was a premise funny enough to catch the attention of several producers and writer-director Gene Stupnitsky.
Stupnitsky, an Emmy-nominated alum of âThe Officeâ who also directed and co-wrote the 2019 hit âGood Boys,â knew just who to take it to. He told Lawrence about the idea one night at dinner with friends in which, he estimated, they had had about âeight or nine martinis between us.â
The two met over a decade ago, through a mutual friend, at Medieval Times of all places. Lawrence, he remembered, was dressed in a full wizard costume. And they soon became actual friends. He even introduced Lawrence to her husband.
âI owed him one,â Lawrence said. âThatâs why I did this film.â
Stupnitsky, sitting next to Lawrence, added: âThereâs probably some truth to that.â
With Lawrence attached to star and produce, the movie became a hot commodity, with streaming services and studios vying for the rights to make it. Ultimately, they went with Sony and a traditional theatrical release.
âThe reason I wrote this movie for her is because I knew how funny she was and I wanted everyone else to know. I mean, people know sheâs funny but they wanted her in a comedy. I thought, yes I know how to do this. I know how to write her voice,â Stupnitsky said. "I remember I told her, âI really want you to experience a feeling of sitting in a theater with hundreds of people laughing.â Sheâs had many, many experiences in film, but she hasnât quite had this one.â
In "No Hard Feelings," Lawrenceâs character Maddie is having a rough stretch with money. As an Uber driver without a car sheâs in a pressing bind. So when she finds this ad with the promise of a Buick Regal as payment, she takes the bait. In a clip that Sony debuted for theater owners at the CinemaCon convention last week, Maddie meets 19-year-old Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) for the first time wearing a slim, hot pink mini dress and high heels and acting overtly flirty and available.
âSheâs dressed like what she thinks is a 19-year-oldâs idea of a sex fantasy. And sheâs wrong,â Stupnitsky said. âHeâs like the one kid who she canât seduce.â
The situation escalates from there as she tries to give him a ride home. He thinks heâs being abducted and, as anyone who has watched the red-band trailer knows, it ends with her getting pepper sprayed. But thereâs a sweet core to the film too.
âHe is longing for a connection, which is what she needs as well but doesnât know it yet,â Stupnitsky said. âShe wants to get the car and move on with her life. But heâs forcing her to kind of take things slow and get to know him and be intimate, in a way, with him in a platonic sort of way.â
The experience, Lawrence said, was a blast, helped by her connection with her younger co-star.
âWe just laughed all day long,â she said. âSometimes I would get in bed after work and just like, giggle before going to sleep, just thinking about the day. I was also sad for making it because I was like, âGod, Iâm just Iâm not going to have one of these again. This is this is so singular.ââ
As a producer on the film, Lawrence has already gotten to watch it with an audience and experience that big, communal laughter that Stupnitsky promised.
âI went to a test screening and sat in back,â she said. âIt was pretty extraordinary.â
Every film, she knows, is a gamble but sheâs pretty confident about âNo Hard Feelings.â
âYou really never know. You might think audiences want this and they donât. And Iâve certainly had my experiences with that,â she said. âItâs a mix of instinct and looking at the information that you have. I knew what we had was the funniest movie that anybody would have ever seen â I have no doubts about thatâand I knew that Gene was the one that could do it.â
Itâs also Lawrenceâs first major theatrical release in a few years, since the 2019 X-Men movie âDark Phoenix.â Her recent films have been primarily streaming releases with Netflixâs âDonât Look Upâ and Appleâs âCauseway,â which she also produced.
âI think audiences are really going to remember why they love her,âStupnitsky said.
Lawrence laughed: âI look much better 12 feet high.â

sheâs sitting alone by the lake,  arms hugging her knees with eyes cast out in the slowly darkening water from the sunset above.     her mind is swirling,  her eyes almost vacant if it werenât for the clear worried expression she wore.     the world around her has essentially faded away,  even the lake sheâs gazing into becoming an unfocused blur.     âŚuntil she hears percy,  anyway.

jercy au where percy's an art thief and jace is a detective?
Iâm doing this for Jason Grace Week day 3, because this has been in my inbox for ages.
Jason didnât like whoever kept stealing statues and paintings from museums.
He definitely didnât like that they kept leaving the art on his doorstep with pretty ribbons and sweet messages on them.
âWhatâs the point of stealing art if youâre just going to return it,â He slapped his notebook shut and put his head in his hands. He could hear Reyna snickering at him.
âI think the perp has a crush on you.â
Jason groaned softly.
âWith my luck? Itâs a 50 year old drunk whoâs looking to get arrested quick.â
Reynaâs snickering got louder
âOr maybe itâs a drug addict whoâs sole purpose in life is to taunt detectives.â
âI hate you.â
Jason rolled out of his chair, letting himself fall to the floor. Then he laid down on his back, looking up at the press wood bottom of his desk.
And he stayed like that. For an hour.Â
Someone dropped a file on his stomach.
Annabethâs sick-ridden voice rang in his ears.
âThe prints came back, weâve identified a suspect.â She sounded miserable.Â
Jason wiggled out from under his desk and put the file down on the table as he got up.
âYou shouldnât be here, youâre sick.â
Annabeth shook her head. ââM fine. The person weâre-â
âMe, youâre not going.â Annabeth ignored him.
â- looking for is Perseus âPercyâ Jackson. Lives on the corner of West 112 and Malcolm X.â
Jason nodded, grabbing the file, but not opening it.
âIâll go alone.â
âIâm your secondary-â
âYou need to get some rest. Now.â
Annabeth grumbled.Â
âFine.â
Jason made his mistake when he didnât look at the file.
Usually he would never make that mistake, he needed to know what criminal background the suspect had.Â
He realized his mistake mid knock on the door number Annabeth scribbled on the sticky note along with his address.
Percy Jackson was a rather average height man, but that was the only thing average about him. His eyes were like looking into all oceans in one glance, green rings around his pupil that dashed out into deep royal blue edges. His skin was ridiculously tan, almost glowing like the sun. He had a couple tattoos - a girlâs name in cursive on his wrist, a wave peaking from behind his shoulder, a geometric black rose on his his hip, half hidden.
He was built like a Greek God.
The smell of a fresh shower lingered in the air, and Jason was painfully aware that he was only wearing a towel.
Percy leaned against the frame of his door, scanning Jasonâs physique. âCan⌠I help you, stranger?â
Jason cleared his throat.
âIâm, uh, looking for Perseus Jackson.â
âWell you found them.â He put his hand on his hip, clicking his tongue.
Jason nodded, spacing out for a moment. Percy seemed to notice this, but didnât have time to comment.
âIâm here with the NYPD-â
Percy held up his hands.Â
âWoah, is this because of the parking ticket? I told the lady I was late because the guy gave me the wrong deadline and-â
âNo⌠no, thatâs not⌠why Iâm here.â
Percy blinked.
âOh.â
Jason licked his lips, a crutch he had for conversations.
âIâm actually here about a case.â
âShit.â Percy grumbled. âIâm going to be late for work⌠can we⌠maybe do this later, I donât want to get fired.â
Jason nodded without thinking about what Percy just said, then a door was slammed in his face.
Without saying a word, Jason climbed back down three flights of stairs (because the elevator was broken).
When he sat down in his car, he grabbed Percyâs file and read it out loud.
âName: Percy Jackson, Address⌠blah blah blah blah blahâŚâ He skims the page to find where he worked.
Jasonâs heart stopped in his chest.
âShit⌠Place of Employment: Unemployed.â
He bang his head against the steering wheel and his horn went off.
âCaptain, I know I messed up but-â Jason wasnât sure if Chiron could handle this stress right now.
âItâs a genuine mistake. youâve been here for two days, it happens.â
Jason nodded. âThank you sir-â
âThatâs why Iâm giving the case to Arellano.â
Jason stopped nodding.
âWâŚwhat?â
âIâm taking you off the case and putting you on leave.â
âBut-â
Chiron stood up from his chair with the aid of his crutches. He was still recovering from an incident in the field, but he was still much taller than Jason would ever be.
âGo home, get some rest, watch whatever you millennials watch nowadays. But youâre not coming into work for a week.â
Jason opened his mouth to argue, but a stern look from Chiron caused him to decide against speaking. So instead, he left without being dismissed, grabbing his phone off this table, and going straight for his car.
The ride home was busy of him scolding himself of his mistake, losing Percy Jackson, their prime suspect, because he forgot to read a file.
His home was a small apartment, nothing much, nothing important. Just they place he stayed when he had his days off.
Jason slid his key into the door. It didnât unlock.
âYouâve got to be fucking kidding me.â
He jammed the key further in, even though it really didnât budge.
âOh my god, please, not right now.â
He turned his key back and forth, and the door locked on his.
His eyes went wide and his heart stopped dead again.
âShit shit shit shit shit-âÂ
He unlocked his door, letting it swing open, and reached for his gunâŚ
Which he came back empty handed. He cursed his day, and grabbed the potted plant by his door, wondering if it would be good enough for defense.
He closed the door behind him, walking slowly forwards.
âWhoâs ever in my house-â Jason didnât bother correcting his mistake, âyou have till the count of 3 to be out of here or Iâll find my gun.â
No reply.
âOneâŚâ
Not a single sound.
âTwoâŚâ
No movement.
âThreeâŚâ
The cold blade of a knife pressed against his throat as he was pushed against a wall, his plant shattered from his hands.
He didnât fight only because of two brilliant blue-green eyes wildly staring at him.
âPlease donât shoot me,â Percy whispered, âIâm not here to do any harm, I promise.â
Jason held his breath. Percy smelled like spicy cinnamon and sweet vanilla, the kind of candle Jason has here. He had a blue hoodie, but Jason couldnât read what was on it because Percy was pressing him against the wall.
Jason was also aware of the foot height difference between them, with Percy being the shorter one.
âHow did you-â
Percy bit his lip and Jason mouthed âoh.â
âIâm⌠Sorry. I came here to apologize for this mess. I didnât realise how fucked up it was until I saw you at my door andâŚâÂ
Jason realised this was a confession.
âYou-â
âStole the art, yet. Because I had a crush on you in highschool after your dad bragged about you everytime I was arrested, all your achievements and grades and âmodel teenâ shit⌠and I decided to try and flirt and picked the worst way possible so Iâm here to turn myself in.â
Jasonâs face went red at this.
âIâŚâ
âItâs fucked up, yeah, I didnât think the job thing would even get past you. But it did⌠so I figured something was wrong, and I found your address andâŚâ Percy paused. âShit⌠no, thatâs fucked up too.â
Percy pulled back, dropping the knife. Jason gently peeled away from the wall, guiding Percy to the living room.
âSo you were flirting?â
âIn a fucked up way.â
âBut⌠you were flirting.â
Percy glared up at him as he sat on the couch.
âAre you mocking me?â
âNo. It was⌠kinda cuteâŚâ He admitted. âCouldnât keep the gifts.â
âI know.â
Jason hummed softly, sitting on his coffee table.
âYou could have just came to me in person.â
âI would die.â Percy whispered. âIâm an unemployed mess with a criminal record for street racing and vandalism, and youâre a top detective with a squeaky clean record and a dad who is so proud of him that people literally admire you without knowing who you are.â
Jason stays quiet, folding his arms together.
âSo when are you going to bring me in.â
âIâm not.â
Percy blinked in mild surprise.
âYouâre⌠not?â
âI was taken off the case, they have no real evidence you committed the crimes⌠unless you sent something telling them.â
Percy just shook his head.
Jason sighed.Â
âMaybe not stealing things would be great. And I would lose my perfect record if anyone found out. But they donât have to, as long as you promise never to steal anything starting⌠2 minutes from now.â
Percy paused.
âTwo minutes?â
Jason smiled.

Whatâs ridiculous is I see people saying that Annabeth just misinterpreted things based off what we see in TTC, and that Mrs. Chase was right to keep her separate from everyone else. The logic is that since she cannot see divine things, sheâd have no reason to believe Annabeth and that the monsters would only be after Annabeth, not the others, so itâs like quarantining a child with chicken pox to keep the others safe, but if she canât see the webs, she wouldnât see the monsters either and wouldnât have a reason to think the boys are in danger, so that argument is useless. Also, Annabeth was 7, a literal child; when her stepmother married her father, she implicitly agreed to raise Annabeth with him, and even if she couldnât see the webs, she shouldâve comforted her stepdaughter from the nightmares, itâs the responsibility of the parent to calm their child down and tell them that they shouldnât be afraid as the parent will protect them. Mrs. Chase didnât do this, and didnât even believe Annabeth about the nightmares, saying she was seeking attention (sheâs 7, and misses her dad. Maybe Mrs. Chase shouldâve stepped as a parent, like the title of stepparent implies). Also, maybe she changed by the time TTC rolled around, but abusers pretend otherwise in front of others, and both Thalia and Percy would know this, since they both had abusive parental figures in Gabe and Beryl, so itâs wildly OOC that both of them would be totally chill with the Chases. Thalia and Percy would be the first people to remind Annabeth that if she wants this, they support her, but if anything happens, she can call them immediately; Sally would let Annabeth stay with them (even if Percabeth didnât happen, anyone who thinks Sally wouldnât love Annabeth, her sonâs best friend along with Grover, like a daughter didnât read the same books I did) and Artemis would let Annabeth chill with the Hunt long enough for her to go to camp or find someone to stay with for the school year, if Annabeth doesnât want to be a Hunter. Thalia and Percy would be civil while asking for help, they need help badly and the fate of their world depends on them being able to free Artemis along with Annabeth, but neither would actually trust them or like them. Also, WTF was up with Frederick melting her weapons as an experiment; it worked out well enough, but he couldâve damaged the metal irreparably and Annabeth wouldâve been screwed. Like, Annabeth left those weapons in case she came back and needed them, and he melted them down, meaning Annabeth couldâve come in lethal danger seeking a weapon, and wouldâve had no weapon to defend herself. He potentially risked his daughterâs life and safety on a science experiment.
I hate people excusing Annabeth's abuse, it was a real genuine thing that was bad enough to make her run away, not once but twice (maybe three times if you count SOM). So like- her family is not at all okay.

[Luke:]
The gods are real
Like the Greek gods
[Annabeth:]
Like the ones you learned about
But weren't paying attention to
[Luke & Annabeth:]
Well, they don't pay attention to you, either
[All:]
Especially if you're their kid
[Grover:]
The gods have godly things to do
[Grover & Silena:]
Godly places they need to see
[Clarisse:]
Godly plans they need to make
That don't include
Me
[All:]
Yeah, the Gods are real
And they have kids
And those kids have
Issues
Issues
[Boys:]
Daddy doesn't love me
And mommy is a god
[Girls:]
Mommy can't protect me
And daddy is a god
[All:]
Mommy is too busy
And daddy is too busy
Busy, busy, busy, busy being a god
Yeah
You never listen to me
You never listen
You never listen to me
You never listen, oh
You never listen but
Now, you're gonna listen
'Cause it's time you heard our side of the story
It's time you heard our story
[Percy:]
Look!
I didn't wanna be a half-blood
I didn't ask to be a hero seeking praise
Being a half-blood, it's scary
It mostly gets you killed in very nasty ways
I didn't want to cause trouble, trouble
I'm less a player and more the played
And, honestly, I'd be totally be fine
If I could make it to the next grade, next grade
It wasn't dirty socks or my stepdad
It was danger that I smelled
The day it all went down
The day I got expelled
Maybe you don't know what a half-blood is because your life is normal and happy and not constantly in danger, but my life...?
Let me set the scene
We were on this freaky field trip
[Ensemble:]
Freaky trip
That's when this story should probably start
[All:]
We were geeking out on ancient Greek
At the New York Metropolitan Museum Of Art
[Percy:]
We stopped by all the statues
And learned about the gods
With Mr. Brunner and my substitute, Mrs. Dodds
Hadn't done nothing wrong
Wasn't rude
Hadn't rebelled
[All:]
On the day it all went down
[Percy:]
The day I got expelled
[Mr. Brunner:]
The Greek gods! Almighty titans of earth, sea, and sky! But even they were children once. And they didn't have it easy! Their father, Kronos, feared the day his children would one day inherit the earth. So what did he do?
Anyone? Anyone?
[Mrs. Dodds:]
He ate them!
[Mr Brunner:]
Ah... thank you Mrs. Dodds
But! one child, Zeus, escaped and devised a plan to rescue his brothers and sisters! He tricked Kronos into eating a rock. And what did Kronos do?
Anyone? Any student?
[Mrs Dodds:]
He vomited them up!
[Percy:]
I didn't really get the story
At least it wasn't boring as I'd feared
But is it me, or is Greek mythology
Not deeply weird?
I didn't want to pay attention
([Ensemble:] Pay attention! Pay attention!)
Now I wish I had taken notes
But my focus is in question
And gods and indigestion caused a groan from all our throats
[Ensemble:]
Ew!
[Grover:]
Baaaaaah!
[Percy:]
Dude, what was that?
[Grover:]
Uh, nothing!
[Percy:]
My best friend was acting strange
At which he so excelled
[All:]
The day it all went down
[Percy:]
The day I got expelled
Why do you have peanut butter in your hair?
[Grover:]
Ask Nancy Bobofit. She's a monster! Not literally. I don't think
[Percy:]
She threw a peanut butter sandwich at you?
[Grover:]
She threw a peanut butter sandwich at you, I stopped it. With my head
[Percy:]
Grover, you're a good friend
[Grover:]
Aw...
Dude. I'm your only friend
[Mrs Dodds:]
Percy Jackson!
[Percy:]
I knew something was up
When I heard my name get yelled
[All:]
The day it all went down
[Percy:]
I saw something odd in Mrs. Dodds' frown
[All:]
The day it all got weird
[Percy:]
The day I got expelled
[Mrs Dodds:]
Mr. Jackson
[Percy:]
Oh-oh-oh-oh!
[Mrs Dodds:]
Mr. Jackson
[Percy:]
Oh-oh-oh-oh!
[Mrs Dodds:]
Mr. Jackson!
Please see me by the sphinx
[Percy:]
Look... if this is about Nancy Bobofit, she only hates me because I tried to get her to stop wedgie-ing the first graders
[Mrs Dodds:]
I have heard much about you... Percy Jackson
[Percy:]
Really? That's very dedicated for a substitute...
[Mrs Dodds:]
Kicked out of five schools in six years. One might question your parentage
[Percy:]
Hey, don't talk about my mom
[Mrs Dodds:]
And your father? That's right... you don't know who he is!
[Percy:]
What's this about anyway?
Uh, Mrs. Dodds?
You have something growing on your
[Mrs Dodds' laughter become maniacal. Percy screams]
[Mr Brunner:]
What ho, Percy!
[Percy:]
Mr. Brunner! What am I supposed to do with a pen- Sword! Woah!
[Mrs Dodds screams]
[Percy:]
Mr. Brunner?
Mrs... Dodds?
Um...
I didn't know what just had happened
Was that all a creepy, crazy dream?
My teacher was a creature
Then she vanished in the ether
With a demon scream
The next thing that I knew
I was where detention was held
The day it all got real
The day I got
Expelled?
[Mr Brunner:]
I tried, Percy, but the headmaster stands firm in his decision. You were supposed to stay with the group. And this was your final warning
[Percy:]
But it wasn't my fault, it was Mrs. Dodds! She lured me away, she attacked me, and... you saw it!
[Mr Brunner:]
Did I?
[Percy:]
And you gave me that pen! Only it wasn't a pen, it was a sword, and...
What?
[Grover:]
Percy... we've never had a teacher named Mrs. Dodds
[Mr Brunner:]
Perhaps it's for the best. This wasn't the place for you. It was only a matter of time before
[Percy:]
I got kicked out?
[Mr Brunner:]
That's not what I was going to
[Percy:]
You think I'm trouble. Just like everyone else
[Mr Brunner:]
No, but... That is to say... I can only accept the best from you, Percy. Someday you'll understand why. I'm truly sorry
[Percy:]
Yeah well, I'm sorry I let you down
[Grover:]
Maybe he's right. You never fit in at this school anyway. You're not exactly...
[Percy:]
Normal?
[Grover:]
Exactly! [Laughs]
I mean, uh, I'll see you on the bus
[Percy:]
So if you think you are a halfblood
Better get headed to the exits now
'Cause folks will think you're lying
Better run and don't start crying
'Cause you're monster chow
Or stick around and maybe you'll learn from me
This ain't Odysseus' Odyssey
So hear me out
If you're so compelled
But, nobody listens to me
They never listen
Nobody listens to me
They never listen, oh
[Ensemble:]
Dude!
You got
Expelled
[Percy:]
I didn't wanna be a halfblood
([Ensemble:] Expelled!)
I didn't ask to be a halfblood
[All:]
Expelled!
